NAFSB DRAFT Code of
Ethics and Conduct
The mission of the National Association of Forensic Science Boards (NAFSB) is to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among state-level forensic science boards and commissions by providing access to best practices, research, data, and lessons learned. To reinforce professional integrity, members of the NAFSB collectively endorse the principles laid out in the following Code of Ethics and Conduct:
No member shall engage in any conduct that is in direct contradiction to the mission of the NAFSB or harmful to the organization or the forensic science community.
No member shall engage in any illegal activity, any technical misrepresentation or distortion, or any scholarly falsification.
No member shall misrepresent his or her expertise or credentials in any professional capacity.
No member shall issue public statements that appear to represent the position of the NAFSB without first obtaining specific authority from the Executive Board.
No individual may gain membership in NAFSB, nor shall he/she retain membership if they have been convicted of a felony offense.
All members shall report, to the extent permitted by law, to the Executive Committee any potential ethics violation committed by another member of the NAFSB.
These principles underscore the NAFSB's commitment to promoting accountability, professionalism, and ethical conduct across the forensic science community. Through steadfast adherence to this Code of Ethics and Conduct, NAFSB members uphold the values of transparency and trust, ensuring that the field of forensic science continues to advance with integrity and respect.
